What We Do
Elimu is a community organisation which supports young people aged 14-24 with careers, education and financial empowerment.
How we do it
We have developed a community of role models from different industries who help us to achieve our mission by mentoring our youth, delivering skills workshops, participating in Q&A’s which are hosted by our youth and guest speaking on our Fellowship programme.
Why This Matters
Our purpose is to reduce the number of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET). The UK NEET level is over 750,000 per annum and was expected to rise in 2020 because of the £5 billion funding gap for local authorities. However, the NEET level has been projected to rise even higher as a result of the pandemic, with 100,000 16-25 year-olds expected to struggle to find meaningful employment as a result of COVID-19.
Impact so far
We have developed a large community of young people and role models from different industries. Our investment bankers, lawyers, politicians, actors, teachers etc are united by a single purpose: empowering our youth.
Our volunteer community giving back by teaching young people the lessons that they have learned on their journeys to success.
How this will make a difference
Our mission is simple: we are mobilising our community of role models to educate and empower Black youth.
We have developed a model which can be shared with the relevant institutions and implemented as a place-based engagement strategy at Local Government level. Find out more about this model by visiting our Elimu Fellowship page.
